Design: C5-S-AX1	Bethlehem Steel Co., SB Division, Sparrows Point, Maryland
(Ore Carrier)	MC-1982 to 1988 and 2066 (8 Built)
As replacement for the loss of all her Ore Carriers during WWII, Bethlehem Steel Co.and the Maritime Commission developed the C5-S-AX1 design, with tankerlyke appereance and a speed of 16 knots. All contracted by the Commission, but only four were completed by the Commission. The remaining four were completed privately by Bethlehem Steel Co. All vessels operated by Ore Steamship Co.under U.S.Flag and Registry in South America / East Coast ore transport.
